Cai Lin Adds Title Of Graduate To Her List Of Achievements

PETALING JAYA: She describes herself as an Olympian, a member of the national swimming team and a mass communications student on Twitter.

Now, Khoo Cai Lin (pic) can proudly add the title of ‘graduate’ to that list.

On Saturday, Cai Lin graduated with a Diploma in Communication from Taylor’s University.

“It’s such a relief to know that all the studying and struggles with projects and assignments are over. I can finally say I’ve graduated,” said a beaming Cai Lin, who completed her studies in May.

“It’s difficult to juggle so many things at once but, in the end, it’s well worth it.”

Cai Lin was showered with gifts from friends and family but the one that stood out was a Santa Claus nanoblock set given by her sister.

She took to Twitter to share her delight at receiving the gift, saying: “Wahaha my graduation present from my sis! This beats a bunch of flowers any time!!!” and admitted that she prefers practical gifts.

“I don’t really fancy getting flowers for graduation. I think it’s a waste of money to spend so much on something that will wither in a couple of days,” said the freestyle specialist.

“I prefer getting something practical that I can use or something memorable. It’s more meaningful that way.”

The 24-year-old is not done with studies yet as she is pursuing an honours degree in Mass Communication, majoring in Public Relations and Marketing, at the same varsity.

The 2007 Malaysian Olympian of the Year is enjoying her classes and hopes to venture into public relations.

Her next assignment will be in two weeks’ time – at the Asian Championships in Dubai on Nov 15-25.

She hopes to get into the finals of the 400m and 800m freestyle events and to either come close or better her personal best.

Cai Lin holds the national record for the both the 400m (4:10:75) and 800m freestyle (8:45.36).
