Nur Dhabitah, who celebrated her 13th birthday yesterday, recorded a 236.25 total score to win the event, edging favourite Jasmine Lai of Perak who scored 234.80. Third was Nur Dhabitah's teammate Loh Zhiayi who totalled 231.65. Nur Dhabitah's gold medal, the only one on offer on the final day of competition at the Wisma Belia Aquatic complex, clinched the overall title for FT with Perak, Penang, Selangor and FT all tied on two gold each going into the last day of the competition.The Bukit Jalil Sports School student, who despite her young age is already competing in her third Malaysia Games, said she hoped her success is just the start of bigger things to come.
"I am quite used to going up against Zhiayi and Jasmine and knowing their abilities, I really did not expect to win," said Nur Dhabitah, who has been diving since she was seven.
"It is my birthday today and to win the gold and help FT clinch the overall title is just undescribable.
"My performances here are the best I have achieved in my career so far. I hope to continue to improve and win bigger events in the future.
"My goal is to win an Olympic medal one day and I am willing to give my all to achieve that."
Partnering Zhiayi, Nur Dhabitah had also won the gold in the 3m springboard synchro and silver in the platform synchro. She had also clinched the bronze medal in the platform individual.
FT emerged overall champions with a haul of three gold, three silver and three bronze medals. Perak finished second with two gold, four silver and three bronze, while Selangor took third with two gold and three bronze.
