Pandelela A Shoo-in For State Sportswoman Award

KUCHING: Olympic medallist Pandelela Rinong is the favourite to win the Sportswoman of the Year 2011-2012 at the Sarawak Sports Awards in Sibu on Nov 23.

World champion bowler Jacqueline Jenelee Sijore, taekwondo exponent Morren Ulai Lian and gymnast Esmelda Arecia Menti are also nominated.

Pandelela previously won the state’s Sportswoman of the Year 2009-2010 award.

Contesting in the men’s category are Olympian diver Bryan Nickson, athlete Mohamad Ariff Zulhilmi Alet and taekwondo exponent Admady Rady.

A total of 71 nominations have been received for the state awards with 45 to be shortlisted for a total of 16 categories which also includes a special section for the Paralympic athletes.

There is also a Tokoh Sukan award this year for the best contributions to sports in the state.
