NATIONAL coach Yang Zhuliang wants Pandelela Rinong to show her true ability in next week's third leg of the Diving World Series in Edinburgh.
Pandelela. 20, returned to competition for the first time since the London Olympics to clinch a bronze medal in last month's opening leg in Beijing before finishing fifth in Dubai.
Zhuliang is happy with Pandelela's progress in both the legs but felt she could have done better.
"I believe she was slightly nervous as she had just recovered from an ankle problem which kept her out of competitions," said Zhuliang yesterday.
"I want her to forget about the past and start thinking about the future as if she wants to remain competitive, she must make progress."
Pandelela, an Olympic bronze medallist, leads the Edinburgh-bound team, also comprising Leong Mun Yee, Wendy Ng, Cheong Jun Hoong, Chew Yiwei and Ooi Tze Liang.
Zhuliang wants his divers to make progress and earn good results in the world series ahead of the World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona, Spain.
"Our divers need to produce world class performances and record competitive scores as China's second stringers are already showing progress," said Zhuliang.
"Even though, none of them has competed in international meets, they posted scores good enough for Olympic medals at the recent China's national championships.
"I believe they have changed their training methods and are trying tougher routines. It shows they want to dominate the sport and sweep all the medals in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro."
Except for Pandelela, Mun Yee, Jun Hoong, Wendy and Bryan Nickson Lomas, the others find it hard to make an impression outside Malaysia.
"We do not have a huge pool of divers unlike China and other diving nations. However, the ones we have are talented but only lack the experience.
"I have a strategy to mould them into world class divers and hopefully, some will be good enough for medals at the Myanmar Sea Games in December," Zhuliang added.
