DIVING: Bronze Starter For Pair

THE relatively new partnership of Cheong Jun Hoong and Wendy Ng Yan served notice of their potential when they clinched the bronze in the women's 3m springboard synchro at the third leg of the Diving World Series in Edinburgh, Scotland, on Friday.

Jun Hoong and Wendy, who finished in last place in the second leg in Dubai after a promising fourth place on their debut as a pair in Beijing last month, managed a commendable series of 48.00, 48.60, 59.40, 59.40 and 68.40 for a 283.80 total.

As expected, China's Wu Minxia and Shi Tingmao bagged gold with a 332.10 while Britain's Alicia Blagg and Rebecca Gallantree took silver with 305.28.

Jun Hoong said she was happy that they had secured their first medal together but stressed there was still room for improvement.

"We were feeling a bit nervous before the tournament but still managed a reasonable result," said Jun Hoong.

"We're happy with the medal but we can still improve our dives."

The men's event saw Ahmad Amsyar-Ooi Tze Liang finishing fifth from six pairs with a 48.60, 47.40, 68.82, 58.14, 53.55 and 69.36 series for a 345.87 total.
