STRUGGLING: Freestyle specialist has been absent from action
DANIEL Bego is back on the crock list while diver Leong Mun Yee will take a break to concentrate on her studies.
Bego, who starred with a five-gold feat at the 2009 Laos Sea Games, has been absent from the pool for sometime as he is undergoing rehab for his injured shoulders.
The freestyle specialist has not swum competitively since failing to qualify for the Olympics at the Southeast Asian Championships in June in Singapore.
Bego, who holds six individual national records, has been struggling with his form since undergoing surgery on both shoulders last April to correct a long-standing bone spur problem.
He could be forced to rethink his future following his recurring problem.
National coach Paul Birmingham said he has no clue of Bego's progress.
"Why must you ask me about Daniel when others are clocking faster times? I've not seen him ...all I know is that he is under rehab," said the frustrated Birmingham at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
"I will continue to work on the rest for the Asian Championships in Dubai, where I plan to send those who met the Olympic 'B' times but did not qualify for London."
As for Mun Yee, the four-time Olympian has registered for her fourth semester at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
The Ipoh-born wants to focus on completing her degree in Mass Communications.
"I want to complete my remaining semesters as some of my friends have already graduated. I have not decided about my future... it will depend on my coach," said Mun Yee, partner to Olympics bronze medallist Pandelela Rinong in the women's 10m platform synchro event in London.
Her decision means back-up diver Loh Zhiayi will be groomed for the synchro and the member of the back-up squad, bound for the upcoming World Junior Championships, may partner Pandelela at the Asian meet in November.
