SEA GAMES: Quiet Night At The Pool For Malaysia

It was a quiet night for Malaysia at the Jakabaring Aquatic Centre yesterday as none of the swimmers managed to get onto the podium.

Malaysia, however, could have earned a medal in the women's 4x200 freestyle but an injury to Hii Siew Siew forced the team, also comprising Khoo Cai Lin, Chan Kah Yan and Erika Kong Chia Chia, to withdraw from the event.

Team manager May Tan said Siew Siew twisted her ankle two weeks ago but it flared up again due to the uneven walkway inside the Jakabaring Sports Complex.

"We withdrew from the relay although we had a 50 per cent chance of a medal. Siew Siew should be able to start in the 200m butterfly tomorrow (today)," said May yesterday.

"I would not say it was a bad outing today (yesterday) as several swimmers managed to record their personal best."

Malaysia's wait for gold could end today through Foo Jian Beng, who trained for four months in the United States for the Sea Games, in the men's 100m freestyle, and Khoo Cai Lin in the women's 400m freestyle.
