Bryan Bags Fourth Straight Win In 10m Platform Event In Games

PALEMBANG: Bryan Nickson Lomas was a class above his rivals as he swept to victory in the men’s 10m platform individual for Malaysia’s fifth diving gold medal at the Jakabaring Aquatic Centre yesterday.

Bryan amassed a total of 500.80 points after the sixth and final attempt as he led team-mate Ooi Tze Liang to a second Malaysian one-two sweep for the day.

Tze Liang did not do well in his first attempt but recovered to nail the silver for Malaysia with 445.25 points ahead of Indonesia’s Nasrullah Mohamad (420.85).

It was Bryan’s fourth successive gold medal on the high board after Manila 2005, Korat 2007 and Laos 2009 but there was much more satisfaction on this occasion as he breached the 500-point barrier for the first time.

“I’m satisfied with my performance. I dived without any pressure and was confident of winning the gold as my difficulties were the highest in the field,” said 21-year-old Bryan, who will now concentrate on polishing his technique ahead of the London Olympics next year.

Bryan has made the cut for the 3m springboard individual for the Olympics but has set his sights on qualifying for the 10m platform as well from the World Cup in London next February.

The final day of competition today will see Yeoh Ken Nee and Pandelela Rinong aiming to win their respective individual men’s 3m springboard and women’s 10m platform to give diving an impressive sweep of seven out of the eight gold medals contested.
